London Study Mission

Day 1 – Arrival & Introduction to the City

Participants arrive in London and check in. The afternoon opens with an orientation session on the structure of the UK financial sector: how the City of London functions, the key institutions and regulators, the major employment pathways, and how the British university system, and the LSE in particular, feeds talent into global finance. A welcome dinner in central London closes the day.

Day 2 – Bank of England & Lloyd’s of London

The morning begins at the Bank of England, England’s central bank and one of the most influential financial institutions in the world. After a visit to the Bank of England Museum, participants attend a briefing on monetary policy, financial stability, and the Bank’s graduate recruitment process. In the afternoon, the group moves to Lloyd’s of London, the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance marketplace. A guided tour is followed by a session on the insurance market’s structure, career pathways, and the growing importance of climate risk and cyber risk in the sector.

Day 3 – London Stock Exchange, FCA & Fintech Workshop

The morning is spent at the London Stock Exchange, one of the oldest and most important stock exchanges in the world. Participants receive a briefing on how equity markets function, how companies list on the LSE, and what roles are available in capital markets for graduates. In the afternoon, a briefing from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) covers the role of regulation in the financial sector and the career opportunities it offers. The day closes with a fintech workshop exploring how technology is reshaping banking, payments, and asset management, and what skills are needed to work in this fast-moving space.

Day 4 – London School of Economics & City Professionals

The fourth day is divided between academia and professional networking. The morning begins at the LSE: a campus tour, a session with the international admissions office on master’s and undergraduate programmes, scholarship opportunities, and application strategy, and a Q&A with current students. In the afternoon, participants attend a structured networking session with professionals working in the City, including investment bankers, analysts, lawyers, and risk managers, who share their career journeys and answer questions on how to break into competitive finance roles from a European university background.

Day 5 – Canary Wharf & Closing Session

The final morning is spent in Canary Wharf, London’s modern financial district and home to the European headquarters of many of the world’s largest banks and financial institutions. The visit provides a sense of the scale and diversity of London’s financial ecosystem. A closing round-table session brings the week together: participants review what they have learned, identify their next academic and professional steps, and receive guidance on networking and following up with the contacts made during the mission. Departures take place in the afternoon.
